Library’s ‘Food for Fine$’ program to benefit St. Brigid’s Food Pantry

LONG BRANCH — Do you owe overdue fines to the Long Branch Free Public Library? Would you like to clear your account and make a fresh start for the New Year? If so, the library’s “Food for Fine$” program is back at 328 Broadway and will continue through Dec. 31.

The program is a good way to get outstanding material returned to the library and help a good cause at the same time. You can pay your late fees and support a local food pantry during the holidays. For every nonperishable food item donated, $1 will be removed from your new and existing fines (excluding lost or damaged items).

Food items suitable for donation are nonperishable, protein-rich food such as peanut butter, granola bars and tuna. Other needed food items include ready-to-eat canned meals, canned fruits, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, canned and dried soup, canned pork and beans, canned juices, sippy juice boxes and hot and cold cereal.

Residents do not have to owe a fine to participate in the food drive.

All donations will benefit St. Brigid’s Food Pantry at St. James Episcopal Church. All items must be usable, nonperishable, unopened and unexpired. Bring your donations to the Circulation Desk so they can be credited to your account.
