FREEHOLD – Two officers in the Freehold Borough Police Department have been promoted to the rank of sergeant.

On Dec. 5, members of the Borough Council passed a resolution confirming the promotions of Officer Diego Flores and Officer Eduardo Santana to sergeant. The promotions became effective on Dec. 6.

According to Police Chief Glenn Roberts, the two officers were promoted to fill open positions in the rank of sergeant. Flores joined the police department in 2006 and Santana joined the police department in 2003.

“Congratulations to Sgt. Flores and Sgt. Santana,” Councilwoman Sharon Shutzer said. “They have served our town well.”

“Sgt. Santana has always shown initiative, taking on additional responsibilities without asking,” Roberts said after the meeting. “For 18 months, he has acted as a provisional sergeant.

“When Sgt. Flores served as an officer in charge, he was diligent and dedicated to his responsibilities,” the chief said. “He took his job very seriously. Sgt. Flores and Sgt. Santana are very good choices. They are well-respected and knowledgeable.”

The resolution also confirmed the appointment of Patrick Quirk to the police department, pending the completion of pre-employment testing and successful completion of his training at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold Borough.

Upon completion of training, Quirk will join the department with the rank of police officer.

In other business, council members passed a resolution supporting the painting of a “thin blue line” which is meant to honor the service that is provided to the community by the members of the Freehold Borough Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in Monmouth County.
