NORTH BRUNSWICK – The North Brunswick Township Council proclaimed respect and admiration for several residents who are serving as positive role models for the youth of the community.
Dairat Majumdar was honored as a Young Adult Peer Advocate for 2016 during the Dec. 5 Township Council meeting.
Dairat is a senior at North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) with a 4.11 GPA.
He is the treasurer of the Class of 2017 and an executive member of the Mediterranean-Asian Club at the school. He is a Junior State of America member and takes part in the Help Our Veterans initiative, trying to establish a club at the school.
Dairat attended the American Legion Jersey Boys State and the Model UN conference.
He has received the NBTHS German Language award, co-founded and serves as co-president of the high school’s Debate Club and plays in the NBTHS Band and the NBTHS Marching Band.
Dairat volunteers with the Union County Pediatrics Group as a doctor shadow in the summer and on the weekends during the school year. He also volunteers as a nurse’s assistant at the school during his free periods. In addition, he has been a laboratory assistant and patient diet distributor at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
He plans to study medicine in college.
Megan Pelszynski was also named a Young Adult Peer Advocate.
Megan is a senior at NBTHS with a 3.83 GPA. She is part of the National Honor Society and the German National Honor Society. She is part of the senior leadership program.
She manages the varsity football team, the boys’ varsity basketball team and the girls’ freshman basketball team.
She is a member of PUSH (Prevention Using Student Help), raises money for Elijah’s Promise in New Brunswick and organizes events for parent-teacher organizations in town.
Megan also teaches first and second grades at St. Paul’s Church in Milltown for its Sunday School program. She also helps with the Vacation Bible School.
She plans to study elementary education in college.
Erskine Glover was recognized as a Youth Adult Peer Advocate during the meeting.
A resident since 1999, Glover is the vice president of the North Brunswick Travel Soccer Club and the head coach of the boys’ travel soccer team. He was the acting vice president of the NBTHS Parents Soccer Association in 2014 and 2015, raising money for scholarships for graduating seniors. He also serves as a head basketball coach in Newark.
Glover received degrees in elementary education and school administration from the University of South Carolina, Temple University and the Teachers College at Columbia University.
He is the current assistant superintendent of the Newark Public School District. He is also an adjunct professor at Rutgers University-Newark, teaching 21st century urban education.
In addition, he is a semi-professional sports photographer.
Lisa Piacentino was also honored as a Youth Adult Peer Advocate award recipient.
With the North Brunswick Baseball & Softball Association, she was a T-Ball coach in 2001, a softball coach from 2002-05 and the executive board secretary from 2005-08.
She volunteered as a Livingston Park Elementary School classroom parent from 2001-06.
She was a North Brunswick Pop Warner team parent from 2003-07 and also served as the league administrative assistant.
She is the executive board secretary of the North Brunswick Youth Sports Festival. She is also a member of the North Brunswick Adams Athletic Club Ladies Auxiliary and the North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co. No. 3 Ladies Auxiliary.
She works as a medical malpractice legal billing administrator.
