The Hazlet Township Committee met Dec. 6 to discuss appointments, make resolutions and listen to those in attendance, including those who had received late fees for sewer bills that arrived late or not at all.

The committee began the meeting when the day of Dec. 6 was proclaimed Barbara Lejda Day for her 28-year commitment on the Environmental Commission.

The committee issued refunds of CCO fees for Theresa Trentacosta and a Green Meadow Farms security deposit; authorized the advertisement for the receipt of a request for quotation (RFQ) for a risk management and casualty insurance broker; and submitted a Drug Alliance Grant for fiscal year July of 2018.

The committee appointed Daniel DelBuno and Joseph Nelson as laborers with a commercial driver’s license (CDL) in the Department of Public Works; rejected the bids for the police headquarters’ addition/firing range alterations and renovations; approved the waiver for the construction fees for the Bayshore Regional Sewage Authority to reconnect the electricity at Shores Road Meter Chamber; and authorized the re-advertising of receipts of bids for snow removal and a stipend for Carol LaManna.

Once the meeting was opened to the public, which is called the Public and Citizens Hearing, residents stepped forward with their concerns. More than one resident expressed frustration with their sewer bills the previous quarter arriving late or not at all in the mail, forcing them to pay late fees.

The committee assured the public their fees would be waived and would be adjusted in their next bill, much to the relief of the attendees.

The next Hazlet Township Committee meeting will take place Dec. 20.
