PLUMSTED – A group of New Egypt High School students recently visited Jensen’s Deep Run, Route 537, to rake leaves and spread cheer to the adult community’s residents during the first New Egypt High School Community Service Day, according to a press release from the Plumsted Township School District.
The students arrived at 8:30 a.m. and worked until 12:30 p.m., armed with rakes and leaf blowers.
More than 100 students representing school clubs, athletic teams and the student body participated in the event, along with 14 staff members, including Superintendent of Schools Gerald North and other members of the administration, according to the press release.
The students designed their own T-shirts to wear for the event and displayed this year’s slogan: Warriors “Leaf” their Mark.
High school senior Nick Uster said, “I think it is important for students like me everywhere to help out in the local community because it will benefit the lives of others and help build character. Also, it’s really fun when you get your friends involved.”
According to the press release, the event was a success with the students and the residents. Plans are to make it an annual event where students can come together and show their gratitude for the community that has supported them so much over the years.
