JAMESBURG – Less than two months after a famed local bakery announced its closure, Mendokers Quality Bakery has reopened just in time for the holiday rush.

After more than eight decades in business, Mendokers announced its immediate closure on Oct. 23 via a Facebook message.

“It is with [a] heavy heart full of sorrow that we must announce after 84 years of business, we will be forced to permanently close our doors as of Monday, Oct. 24,” Ed and Nicole Mendoker posted, citing setbacks that were burdening the family, causing quality to suffer.

Then, again via a Facebook post titled, “Holiday wishes do come true!” the bakery told its loyal customers that the bakery was reopening as of 7 a.m. on Dec. 18.

“We took the time off to bring in a professional management team to increase quality and provide higher quality service,” Ed Mendoker said in the post.

“I will remain, as always, head baker and I will put our family recipes to good use,” he said. “Thank you for being our customer in the past and welcome to our new customers.”

The family could not be reached directly by press time.
