New Egypt High School’s girls’ bowling team is looking to repeat as Burlington County Scholastic League Freedom Division champion behind senior returning starter Brianna Biesiada at the anchor spot.
Biesiada leads the team with an average of 157 pins per game in this early part of the season. She has bowled a high game of 198.
Biesiada matched her 470 series average Dec. 16 against Pemberton Township High School, which snapped the Warriors’ 4-0-2 start on the season by winning two of three games and total wood, 2,172-2,044.
Seniors Maggie Witham in the leadoff spot and Gabby Medina bowling in the No. 3 position in the lineup provide support with series averages of 393 and 392, respectively. Ellie Witham, who is a sophomore, follows with a series average of 372.
“They’re doing well and are very committed. They pick each other up, and the seniors are solid about what they do,” said Dago Pinol, who coaches New Egypt’s girls’ and boys’ teams for the first time.
Freshmen Gabby Biesiada and Libby Witham alternate at the other spot in the lineup, and sophomore Meghan Hammer rounds out the team that looked to bounce back against division favorite Bordentown Regional High School Dec. 19.
Pinol has a good sense of the potential of some of his bowlers after he worked in the fall with Maggie Witham and Brianna Biesieada as the first two singles players on the tennis team he coached for the fifth season. That team finished 8-11, as Kaitlyn Healey and Claire Crono finished 10-7 in first doubles. Donna Colarocco also had some good matches in third singles.
New Egypt’s boys’ bowling team is off to a 2-5 start after falling to Pemberton, which won two of three matches and had the edge in total wood, 2,587-2,365.
Junior Dylan Weicberger at the anchor averages a team-leading 578 series, which is well above his 540 series average for the season. He’s rolled a high game of 258.
Freshman Mike Curtis averages a 180 game and 552 series and rolled a high game of 207 this season bowling in the leadoff spot. Pinol said Curtis regularly bowls 200 games in practice.
“He has tremendous potential and is getting better,” Pinol said.
Seniors Luke Fennimore averages a 431 series in the No. 3 spot, and Clayton Mann averages a 376 series bowling fourth. Andrew Harper, a sophomore, bowls in the No. 2 spot.
