Kirsten Christensen of East Brunswick, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is one of 80 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Christensen will use funds from the award to support her research, which focuses on neurodevelopment disabilities and mentoring youth with marginalized identities.

Christensen was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2016 at The College of New Jersey, Ewing.

The Love of Learning program, implemented in 2007, grants 160 awards annually in support of graduate and professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and studies.

 

Sarah Goldstein of East Brunswick, a physical-therapy student at Quinnipiac University, North Haven, Conn., recently was recognized as a member of the Physical Therapy Pro Bono National Honor Society during a clinic-wide volunteer recognition program held on the Quinnipiac campus.

The society recognizes outstanding physical-therapy students who provide pro bono service as part of their education. Students recognized by the society must exhibit exemplary service and volunteer at least 30 hours to the Volunteers In Service Impacting Our Neighborhood (VISION) Physical Therapy Clinic, a student-run inter-professional pro bono clinic that provides rehabilitation to uninsured residents in the Greater New Haven, Conn., area.

 

Jessica Van Dusen of Monroe is one of 37 students among the second class of Real World Experience Award recipients at Alvernia University, Reading, Pa. A senior studying occupational therapy at Alvernia, Van Dusen will use the award funds for academic fieldwork during the spring and summer.

The awards are provided through the university’s Real-World Experience program, geared to expand students’ access to experiential learning opportunities in all academic areas.

Students applying for Real World Experience Awards receive up to $2,000 to support participation in a variety of opportunities including Alvernia’s Washington Center program, undergraduate research, study abroad, distance internships, alternative break experiences and service-learning.
