Places To Be for Week of Dec. 26

The holiday cheer will turn to scholastic sports cheers this week when local teams will be in action during the break at area high schools.

The boys’ basketball holiday slate …

Red Bank Regional High School will be the venue for the Albert E. Martin Buc Basketball Classic that began Dec. 27 and runs though Dec. 30.

Among the eight teams in this attractive tournament are host Red Bank Regional, Shore Regional High School, Saint John Vianney High School, Sayreville War Memorial High School and Middletown High School North.

On Dec. 30, the third-place game will be played at 3:30 p.m., followed by the championship matchup at 5 p.m.

New Egypt High School will serve as the host to its holiday tournament Dec. 27 and 29.

In the first round Dec. 27, New Egypt played Raritan High School at 5:30 p.m. That game followed the 2 p.m. opener between Steinert High School and Pinelands Regional High School. The consolation will be played at 2:30 p.m. and the final will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 29.

In girls’ basketball play …

The Lady Wave Girls’ Basketball Holiday Tournament began Dec. 27, will continue Dec. 29 and ends Dec. 30 at Long Branch High School.

Long Branch, Shore Regional and Old Bridge High School are among the schools in this holiday get-together.

Wrestling tournaments are also robust this time of the year …

East Brunswick High School will serve as the host to the East Brunswick Bear Invitational Dec. 28.

The tournament will be held at the Churchill Junior High School gym and will start at 9 a.m.

East Brunswick is joined in the field by locals Matawan Regional High School, North Brunswick Township High School, Sayreville, South River High School and Spotswood High School.
