Director Jane Holden (foreground) rehearses with the Heart of New Jersey Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, at Frank DeFino Central School in Marlboro on October 28. The chorus of women singers, ranging in age from teen to 90+, was practicing for the annual concert in November.
The Choral Art Society of New Jersey will perform a concert at 4 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Saint Mary’s Church, 256 Augusta St., South Amboy.
The chorus originated as the Suburban Symphony Chorus in September of 1962. The group’s diverse performances have included Orff’s Carmina Burana, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Handel’s Solomon, and most recently, one of the first U.S performances of Bob Chilcott’s Requiem.
Admission is free, though a $15 donation is appreciated.
