NORTH BRUNSWICK – North Brunswick police officers, with assistance from firefighters from North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 and Fire Co. No. 3, distributed donated toys to families in need just in time for the holidays.

Officers even made a special visit with Santa Claus on Dec. 18 to the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for Luis DelRio, a township resident who spent the holidays hospitalized, according to a statement provided by North Brunswick Patrolman Fedor Salvador-Romero.

“With the success of the toy drive, we were able to help out families in North Brunswick and after assisting them we still had extra toys which we passed on to the New Brunswick Police Department for their toy drive benefiting the victims of a massive apartment fire earlier in the week,” Salvador-Romero said in the statement.

On Dec. 23, the same officers from North Brunswick PBA Local 160 deployed to assist senior citizens in town.

“Working together with [Mayoral Assistant] Janice Larkin, we were able to assist in collecting donated goods and make care packages for residents in need. We made visits to the residents of Senior Housing at 740 Hermann Road and a senior group home on Patton Street. The residents were very grateful, expressing how much it meant to them as many of them did not have much for the holidays,” Salvador-Romero said.

The event was also supported by Mark Cafferty and the North Brunswick Office of Emergency Services.
