Structure fire damages residence in Middletown Township

The Middletown Township Fire Department was dispatched at 7:15 a.m. on Jan. 9 to a fire at 43 Lakeshore Drive in the River Plaza section of the township.

The resident found smoke in the structure and used several fire extinguishers in an attempt to extinguish the fire. The homeowner notified 911 of the fire in the structure and evacuated the residence. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke showing from the right side of the structure and a fire in a wall.

The initial attack was performed with two interior attack lines to suppress the fire. Walls on the first and second floors had to be opened up to expose and contain the fire. Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for extension of the fire. The fire was contained to the area of origin with heat and smoke damage throughout the structure.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 7:45 a.m. and is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Marshall’s office.
