EAST BRUNSWICK — A Kensington Bus Company school bus struck the rear of an Academy-owned commuter bus, causing multiple injuries amongst passengers on both buses.
Four passengers on the Academy bus were treated for minor injuries and complaints of pain in the back, neck and leg after the crash on Route 18, south of Eggers Street around 8:52 a.m. Jan. 16, according to a statement prepared by the East Brunswick Police Department (EBPD). One juvenile from the school bus sustained a broken leg and lacerations, according to police.
According to Sgt. Sean Tulane of the East EBPD, the bus is owned by Academy but leased to NJ Transit.
The Academy bus was being driven by Antonio Casado, 54, of Elizabeth, who had stopped to pick up passengers in the right lane of Route 18 southbound just south of Eggers Street, according to police.
The preliminary investigation shows that the school bus, being driven by Yinny Perez, 45, of Perth Amboy, was traveling south on Route 18 when it struck the rear of the stopped commuter bus, according to police.
Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Atlantic Ambulance, the East Brunswick Rescue Squad and East Brunswick Fire District 2 responded to the scene.
Representatives from Kensington Bus Company did not wish to comment.
