EAST BRUNSWICK – Boy Scout Troop 109 has elevated three scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout.
Paul Anouna, Megh Shah and Nicholas Koft were recognized during a ceremony at St. Bartholomew Church in East Brunswick on Jan. 15.
Paul constructed three bat houses and placed them 16 feet in the air on 4-inch-by-4-inch posts and 2-inch-by-4-inch planks in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park in South Brunswick. They were spaced around the park and secured with gravel and sand in 4 foot holes.
Megh completed a garden rehabilitation. The goal was to take a very poorly maintained garden bed area and create a sustainable garden that does not need much effort and care to stay alive. This project also cleaned the garden area in order to bring it back to its previous beauty. The garden was xeriscaped in order to prevent the need of an excess amount of water to keep it alive.
The project increased the curb appeal of the South River Rescue Squad while giving the community something nice, increased the flora in the area, increased the stability of the wall that surrounds the current area and allowed for a sustainable upgrade to the rescue squad building.
Nick cleared out a new room, built shelving for and stocked the room for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank in New Brunswick. The project involved pre-building the shelves, removing several rows of boxes from the room, finishing and installing the shelves, and replacing the boxes back into the room at the end.
