| SOMERSET- As an Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian, Tracey Conway is often described as “drop-dead funny.”
But when she collapsed on stage from sudden cardiac arrest in 1995, Conway’s comedy sketch about the ER became real life, requiring six defibrillator shocks to bring her back to life. Turning her sudden death into a comedic, yet educational experience, Conway will share her story at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s (RWJUH) annual Heart Month event, “Matters of the Heart,” on Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Imperia in Somerset. Through Conway’s personal account, “Matters of the Heart: Dying to Go On” will take an informative look at cardiovascular health and wellness to raise heart health awareness in the local community. Conway, a former writer/performer on Comedy Central’s Almost Live! uses her reclaimed life to retell the story of her sudden death and miraculous recovery through a touching, yet witty, program titled “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” Now living a healthy and active life thanks to a life-saving Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), Conway is set to prove that there is indeed life after a heart attack. During the program, RWJUH physicians will instruct attendees on how to reduce their risk of heart disease, identify the symptoms of a heart attack, diagnosis and treatment, and more. Presenters will include Subhashini Gowda and Issam MoussaSubhashini Gowda, MD, electrophysiologist at RWJUH, and Issam Moussa, MD, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Chief of Cardiology at RWJUH. “Matters of the Heart: Dying to Go On” will begin at 5:30 p.m. and includes dinner.
