Six seniors at Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) are taking the next step to NCAA Division I soccer, joining dozens of Shore Conference athletes who made their college choices official on National Signing Day.
Aedan Boriotti (Rutgers University), Thomas Judge (James Madison University), Ryan Nigro (New Jersey Institute of Technology), Ryan O’Connor (Loyola University Maryland), Matt Thorsheim (Bucknell University) and Andrew Venezia (Lafayette College) inked their Letters of Intent on the NCAA’s winter signing day Feb. 1.
The signings follow a dream season for the Colts. CBA won the Shore Conference Tournament in the fall, and the team ultimately took the NJSIAA Non-Public A championship as well.
“For these young men and their parents, today is the culmination of a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication both in the classroom and on the soccer field,” CBA Athletic Director Vito Chiaravalloti said in a statement. “They’ve taken pride in being CBA student-athletes and have met all of the challenges and opportunities that come with that title head on. They leave us as scholars and state champions, prepared for the demands of the next level and beyond.”
Shore Conference schools were busy on National Signing Day — the first day of the year when student-athletes can make binding college commitments.
Matawan Regional High School: The Huskies’ Kacey Lambertson (University of Vermont), a soccer player, and Michael McHugh (Central Connecticut State), a football player, signed Letters of Intent.
Mater Dei Prep: Three-star recruit Eddie Lewis is going to Rutgers University. The senior wide receiver helped lead the Seraphs to a Non-Public Group II title last season.
Middletown High School North: Quarterback Donald Glenn (Wagner College) and wide receiver/defensive back Dwight Wilkerson (East Stroudsburg University) made their commitments.
Middletown High School South: The Eagles’ football team had signees Will Gulick (Monmouth University), Kevin Higgins (Wagner), Maxx Imsho (Marist College), James McCarthy (University of Pennsylvania) and Mike Wilson (University of New Haven).
Ocean Township High School: Soccer player Carla Anderson is headed to the University of Massachusetts.
Raritan High School: Football standout Ryan Dickens, whose offer from the University of Connecticut was scratched by the school less than a month ago, found a new home. The linebacker committed to attend Lafayette College.
Red Bank Regional High School: The Buccaneers had one initial signee in football linebacker Chris Outterbridge (Sacred Heart University).
Red Bank Catholic High School: Nasir Darnell (Harvard University), Sophia Demurjian (Manhattan College), Max Hazard (Stetson University), Connor Moore (Millersville University of Pennsylvania) and Alex Sargiss (Colgate University) announced their college choices.
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School: The Bulldogs had a large group of signees.
From the football team, Thomas Chapin (University of Sioux Falls), Timothy Leonard (Bentley University), Tyler Pierson (Hobart and William Smith College), Michael Ruane (University of Massachusetts), Michael O’Connor (Bryant University), Mike Murdock (Lafayette College) and Matt Vecchiarelli (College of the Holy Cross) will be on the gridiron in college.
The group also included boys’ soccer players Nicholas Calabrese (Fairfield University) and Samuel Sapnar (St. Lawrence University); girls’ soccer players Hannah LoSavio (St. Joseph University), Grace Forsyth (Lehigh University) and Samantha Beaudreault (College of St. Joseph’s); and rower Mike Shaw (Loyola University).
Shore Regional High School: The Blue Devils said Katie Stephens (Purdue University) from the girls’ soccer team and football player Matt Pennell (Bentley University) submitted their Letters of Intent.
Saint John Vianney High School: The Lancers had five signees last week.
Field hockey player Emelynn Sneary (LaSalle University), lacrosse player Shaine Sauter (Georgian Court University), track runner Katie DiFrancesco (Princeton University) and soccer players Ashley Meade (University of South Florida) and Sydney Cummings (Brown University) participated in a ceremony in the St. John Vianney gym.
