Little Silver Environmental Day set for March 25

Little Silver Environmental Day will be held from 9 a.m.-1p.m. on March 25 at the Women’s Club, 111 Church St., Little Silver.

The event will include a shredding truck, electronics recycling, a used clothing collection, a composting workshop, a beekeeping talk, local “green” display tables and more.

To pre-order composting bins, email Bonnie Akey at bonw@aol.com for pick up and purchase on March 25. This free event is open to the public and hosted by the Environmental Commission of Little Silver.

A schedule of events includes a Compost Workshop by Rutgers Master Gardener Tom Matulewicz from 10 a.m.–10:45 a.m.; a Beekeeping Discussion with Liz Hanson from 11 a.m.–11:30 a.m.; and a Planting Demonstration by Bob Sickles at 11:45 a.m.

Compost Workshop — The workshop is free. The Earth Machine composter cost is $35 (up to $65 off the retail price) and preregistration for the composter must be by March 11 by emailing Bonnie Akey at bonw@aol.com or by contacting the Monmouth County Recycling Coordinator at 732-683-8686, ext. 6721.

Electronic Waste Collection — Anything with a cord, including televisions, will be accepted and properly recycled by Monmouth Wire and Computer Recycling, Inc. For more information, please call 732-922-3320 or visit www.computerreclamation.com.

Monmouth County Residents can always bring their televisions to the Monmouth County Reclamation Center to be properly recycled. For more information, call 732-683-8686.

A Used Clothing Collection — Lunch Break will accept gently used clothing as well as nonperishable food items for their pantry. Visit www.lunchbreak.org or call 732-747-8577.

Document Shredding — By SafeGuard Document Destruction, providing on site residential document destruction. The truck will accept paper (staples/paper clips OK), books (hard and soft cover), no plastic. The truck has a capacity of 12,000 lbs. and will depart when full. Residents only, no businesses please.

Beekeeping Information — A local beekeeper will be available for questions and give a talk from 11a.m.-11:30 a.m..

“Green” Demonstrations and Display Tables — Information about local environmental and historical topics will be provided by the Environmental Commission of Little Silver and Parker Homestead 1665. Free tree seedlings will be available.
