PLUMSTED – The need for additional storage space has led the members of the Plumsted Township School District Board of Education to approve the construction of a pole building at New Egypt High School, Evergreen Road.

During a recent meeting, the board approved an amendment to the district’s Long Range Facilities Plan. The plan will now include a pole building at the high school.

Business Administrator Sean Gately said the building will be used for storage purposes.

“For next year’s budget, we are talking about putting up a 60-foot by 30-foot (pole building) for storage,” Gately said.

Board members will submit the proposal for the pole building to the state Department of Education’s Office of School Facilities for all necessary approvals.

In other business at the Feb. 8 meeting, Superintendent of Schools Gerald North said the board will move on to the next phase of the strategic planning process it has undertaken: community/stakeholder sessions.

“We are gathering names (of) administrators, teachers, New Egypt High School students, community members, parents, senior citizens and business owners. We will be sending out letters to invite them to the community/stakeholder sessions and asking them to confirm to be part of the process,” North said.

North said the letter will also be posted for on the school district’s website and on its Facebook and Twitter accounts so that all members of the community may view the information.

“I am very optimistic. I cannot wait to get the (strategic planning) process started. We had our first meeting … and what came out of it was very interesting,” the superintendent said. “I thought there was very good feedback. There was excitement. There were people who had very good ideas about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and difficulties we could have. I think (the strategic plan) will put us in a very good position for the next five years after we are finished.”

The next school board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 8 in the New Egypt High School media center. The meeting is open to the public.
