The crash took place near Kingfisher Court and was reported by area residents, according to Capt. Steven Laskiewicz.

At the time of the accident, police said officers and emergency personnel responded to Freehold Road at 2 a.m. Jan. 28.

A preliminary investigation determined Stewart’s vehicle was traveling south on Freehold Road when for unknown reasons it crossed the center line, entered the northbound lane and then ran off the road and struck a tree, according to police.

Stewart was transported to and pronounced dead at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.

On Feb. 13, Laskiewicz said police have not been able to determine why Stewart’s car left the road.

According to an obituary posted online, Stewart was born in Point Pleasant and  grew up in Ocean Township before relocating to Jackson. He is survived by his son, Shane R. Stewart Jr.; his mother and stepfather, Kimberly Aliprantis and Quirmo Rodriquez; a brother and sister-in-law, and their children. Stewart is also survived by his girlfriend, Stephanie Mines, according to the obituary.
