Jackson police officers register Narcan save

JACKSON – A Marlboro resident’s life was saved when police officers provided a dose of a drug that reverses an opioid overdose.

At 12:36 p.m. Feb. 17, Jackson police officers Joe Candido and Kevin Chesney responded to Brook Plaza, South New Prospect Road, to investigate a report of an unconscious man laying in the parking lot, according to police.

Upon their arrival at the shopping center, Candido and Chesney found an unconscious 30-year-old man and discovered evidence of what appeared to be heroin use, police said.

Police said Narcan was administered to the man, who was identified as a resident of Marlboro. After receiving the Narcan, the man became semi-conscious.

Police said personnel from Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 arrived and assisted at the scene. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Narcan, also known as naloxone, can be administered through a person’s nasal passages in spray form. The drug can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
