RUMSON — This year will celebrate five years that the Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Committee will be the proud sponsors of a holiday parade.
The newly selected Grand Marshal, Louis (Lee) Carr, will now join the parade as its honored leader.
He will be the spearhead of the parade that will be held in Rumson on March 12. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and it will be launched at Allen Street and River Road. The parade will conclude at Carton Street and Forrest Avenue.
Carr has a deep love for his Irish heritage. His maternal grandparents were born and raised in Ireland, who later settled in New Jersey in the early 1900s. His mother was one of nine children.
Carr is a 1961 graduate of Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy. In 2002, he was awarded the highest honor of “Acta Non Verba Award” by the Department of Athletics and is one of only nine recipients in history. He has also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
He moved to Little Silver in 1971 with his wife Barbara Ann Lass and raised two children, Tamara and David.
Carr is also the recipient of the 2016 St. Rose High School Alumni Loyalty Award. This award recognizes alumni who have stood out through loyal commitment to St. Rose by their generosity and efforts on behalf of students and other alumni.
After 40 years, he retired from his job on Wall Street after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.
He and his wife donate to charitable organizations, such as the Parker Family Health Center, Meridian Riverview, Jupiter Medical Center, Family and Children’s Association and others. Carr has also served as the Scholarship Committee Chairman at Spring Lake Golf Club.
