Police stop man allegedly carrying imitation firearm, marijuana

EAST BRUNSWICK — Police allegedly confiscated an imitation firearm and drugs during a routine motor vehicle stop.

A patrolman stopped a vehicle at Old Bridge Turnpike and West Prospect Street in East Brunswick for a motor vehicle violation around 3:09 a.m. on Feb. 10, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department (EBPD).

During the course of the investigation, the officer reportedly detected an odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to reports. He had the driver exit the vehicle and allegedly detected the odor of marijuana on the driver as well.

A search of the driver, Christopher Fitzgerald, 22, of Woodbridge, allegedly revealed a Jet Protector JPX OC (capsaicin) gun as well as a quantity of marijuana. Fitzgerald was charged with possession of an imitation firearm, possession of over .75 ounces of OC spray and possession of marijuana.
