Participants sought for chili cook-off and tasting

The South River Police Department (SRPD) and its Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local No. 62 will hold their Chili Cook-Off and Tasting fundraiser noon-2 p.m. April 1 at St. Mary Coptic School, 80 David St., South River.

Individuals are sought to enter for a chance to be crowned The Maker of the Best Chili in South River or to purchase a tasting ticket for a chance to sample chili from each contestant and vote for a fan-favorite winner.

Tasting-admission cost is $10 for ages 12 and up, $5 for youngsters under age 12. Tasting tickets are limited; sales at the door are subject to availability. To purchase in advance, call Jackie at 732-257-6727, ext. 103, or Adam at 732-754-6043. Tasting tickets include door-prize raffles, chili tasting and a 50/50 raffle.

Contestant entry fee is $20; all contestants must register in advance. Entries will be judged by guest judges. First-place, runner-up and fan-favorite prizes will be awarded.

Proceeds from the event help fund the SRPD’s community-policing programs and community events including Law Enforcement Against Drugs, Too Good for Drugs, National Night Out, the junior and citizen police academies, the Free-Throw Tournament and more.

Contestants must register by March 31 by using the form online at http://southrivernj.org/notices/chili-cook-off-040117.pdf.
