Freehold prepares for Irish Week festivities

FREEHOLD – Irish Week events are planned in Downtown Freehold.

The week kicks off on March 12 with the Freehold Borough Arts Council St. Patrick’s Parade, with honoree Jerry Martin, according to a press release. There will be an after party at Freehold Elks Lodge 1454 with the Pat Roddy Band.

The arts council is having the following contests: Best Dressed Baby (under 2), Best Dressed Person, Best Dressed Dog, Best Decorated Bicycle and Best Irish Soda Bread.

On March 14-15, the Flavor of Freehold will provide a gastronomic and retail tour of popular and new establishments in Downtown Freehold.

Between 5:30-8:30 p.m., attendees, armed with their special event passports, can enjoy food from American Hotel Market Yard Grille, Metropolitan Cafe, San Marzano Trattoria, Texas Mexican Restaurant, the Court Jester, Aurum, Uncle Ralston’s Jamaican Homestyle Cooking, Shloka, Freehold Art Gallery, Freehold Body Care, Jemm Optical, Picosol, A Little Bit of Cuba Dos, Chips Salon and El Meson Café.

Participants will also have a chance to receive a flower from Especially For You Florist and Gift Shop.

The Flavor of Freehold will feature Vel Johnson and Tyrone Fredericks Jr. strolling through Freehold and its venues, playing saxophone and entertaining all.

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the Downtown Freehold office, 10 E. Main St., Suite 4A, Freehold, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday (call before coming in).

Participants in the Flavor of Freehold who fill their entire passport by visiting all of the businesses involved will be entered to win a $100 Downtown Freehold gift certificate.

On March 16 from 9-11 p.m., the Downtown Freehold Pub Crawl welcomes guests to imbibe smooth Scotch or hoppy crisp beers at four locations. The Beer Crawl is $20 and the Scotch Crawl is $40; tickets can be purchased at the office of Downtown Freehold.

On the evening of St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, visitors to Downtown Freehold will find holiday specials and the sounds of bagpipers from 7-9 p.m.
