A two-part program titled “South Asian Stroke Awareness” will be offered 12:30-3 p.m. March 30 and April 6. The interactive series is designed specifically for the South Asian community, which is often burdened by chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease that, in turn, can lead to a high incidence of stroke. Information will be provided on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke and on treatment and prevention. The series will be taught by a nurse practitioner and registered dietitian. Participants, who must attend both sessions, will receive a blood-pressure monitor, waist-measuring tape and other handouts in a complimentary tote bag. A healthy lunch will be served. The program is presented by the South Asian Total Health Initiative (SATHI) and funded by the New Jersey Office of Minority and Multicultural Health (NJDOH). Registration is required. Call 732-721-5600, ext. 5033, or log on to www.oldbridgelibrary.org.

The library will present “Medicare and You” 7 p.m. March 30. The workshop, hosted by Bankers Life and Casualty, will offer information on Medicare choices. Participants will learn about the enrollment period and the selections to be made for Medicare parts A, B, C and D. The program also will examine what Medicare pays for in a skilled nursing facility and in a private home.
