Dowdell to celebrate National Library Week

The Sadie Pope Dowdell Library, 100 Harold G. Hoffman Plaza, South Amboy, will mark National Library Week in April with a variety of upcoming events.

A soup contest is planned for April 4. Homemade soup entries may be dropped off 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the library. Judging and awarding of prizes for children, teens and adults is set for 6 p.m. Submitted entries may be sampled 6:30-8 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded.

“El Dia de los Ninos” (“Children’s Day/Book Day”), set for 3-4:30 p.m. April 12, will feature stories and activities. The event is designed to emphasize the importance of literacy for Spanish-speaking children and to recognize diverse cultures, heritage and language while strengthening families and communities.

“Celebrity Storytime” will take place 3-4:30 p.m. April 19. Mickey Gross, president, South Amboy City Council, will read stories to participants. Snacks will be shared.
