Library to hold yoga program in April

The Long Branch Free Public Library will hold “Yoga for Every Body” on Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. on  April 6 through April 27 in the main library’s Community Room at 328 Broadway.

The class is designed for adults to increase strength, flexibility and balance. Yoga is effective in keeping the mind and body in good health, both physically and mentally, and a consistent practice can be an excellent way to stay active and lower stress levels.

Yoga asanas (poses) can go a long way in developing greater flexibility and ensuring a good range of motion and can be an excellent low-impact exercise that is easier on the body than activities like running or weightlifting.

Each class will begin with a brief discussion of yoga philosophy, a warm-up sequence, asanas pertaining to the day’s theme and end with savasana and meditation.

The classes will be taught by certified yoga instructor Susan Safranek, who earned her 200-hour certification at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Over the last 20 years she has taught classes, workshops and private clients in New York before recently moving to Long Branch.

Bring a yoga mat or a large towel to class and wear comfortable clothing for bending and stretching. Socks are optional (bare feet will aid balance on the mat). Adults of all ages and abilities and walk-ins are welcome.
