LONG BRANCH — Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (D-Monmouth) has announced he will be hosting the second annual Poetry Showcase for the 21st National Poetry Month. The submission deadline is April 7.

The competition is open to all students in the 6th District, and select submissions will be featured by Pallone on his website and Facebook and Twitter pages. Last year, over 600 poems were submitted by students of all ages.

On April 27, the office will hold a “Poem in Your Pocket” event by inviting students to visit one of the congressman’s offices to read their poem. All participants will be given a pocket Constitution.

“From William Carlos Williams to Walt Whitman, New Jersey has always been home to many of poetry’s greats,” said Pallone. “We must continue to promote the importance of poetry and encourage the younger generation to celebrate this legacy and expand their education. After last year’s success, I look forward to enjoying the beautiful and creative poems from the students of the 6th Congressional District.”

For more information, interested schools or students may call Pallone’s Long Branch office at 732-571-1140 or his New Brunswick office at 732-249-8892. Students should email their original poems on video to pallonenj06@gmail.com or mail them to Middlesex County, 67/69 Church St., New Brunswick, NJ 08901 or Monmouth County, 504 Broadway, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
