Cemetery to hold World War I Centennial Commemoration Event

Matt Denton
A Veteran of World War II salutes the American Flag during a Veterans Day wreath-laying service held at Veterans Park in Monroe on November 11.

The United States entered World War I on April 6, 1917, when President Woodrow Wilson requested Congress to declare war on Germany. Men joined the armed forces, women entered nursing to serve the military and citizens and industry worked together to support the war effort.

To commemorate the centennial anniversary of the U.S.’s entry into The Great War, Elmwood Cemetery will hold a walking tour of 10 gravesites of citizens of the New Brunswick area who served the country at 11 a.m. on April 8 at the cemetery, 425 Georges Rd., North Brunswick.

The cost is $10 per person. RSVP through the events calendar at www.theelmwoodcemetery.com.
