Funding should go to wind and solar projects

Typing Letter to the Editor for the Opinion page.

The Jersey Central Power and Light Reliability Proposal (10 miles of high tension wires on Statue of Liberty size poles) is another example of 19th century thinking in the 21st century.

If JCP&L planned like a 21st century company, it would invest the $111 million cost in solar and wind projects. The stated purpose of the proposal is to add an “extra layer of reliability to reduce the length and frequency of service disruption.”

Several large appropriately placed solar or wind farms would do the same thing, as did two solar fields recently built on Route 33 in Manalapan.

Renewables not only provide an additional consistent source of energy, they do it without emitting pollution and greenhouse gases. It is time to think toward the future rather than the past.
