SPOTSWOOD – The interim superintendent for the Spotswood School District has quite a history in the district.

Tony Vaz was appointed by the Spotswood Board of Education during its March 21 meeting to replace Scott Rocco, who announced his resignation in February in order to take on a new superintendent’s position in the Hamilton Township School District.

Vaz had previously served as the director of Special Services in Spotswood from 1989-2000, according to information provided by the school district. He held the position of superintendent from January of 2000 until June of 2006, at which time he retired.
He then returned as interim superintendent in July of 2012 and remained in that role until December of 2012; Rocco began as superintendent in January of 2013, according to the district.
Vaz will again assume the role of interim superintendent on May 8.
“Dr. Vaz is well known in our community and has more than demonstrated his expertise and his devotion to our community in the past. He is an obvious choice to help us find our new superintendent and assist in closing out the school year,” Board President Dulce Branco-Rivera said in the statement.
