Sayreville to honor Hall of Fame candidates on April 29

Tom Nagel, sidline supervisor acknowledges the crowd as Sayreville H.S. defeated Middletown North H.S., 41 - 14, to win the North 2 Group IV championship at Rutgers Universty High Point Solutions Stadium on Dec. 3.

The Sayreville War Memorial High School 2017 Hall of Fame annual awards banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. on April 29 at the VFW Hall on Jernee Mill Road in Sayreville.

This year’s honorees are:

• Dr. Daniel Giovenco, Class of 2006: Obtained a master’s and a PhD degree in Public Health by age 27; received a $1.25 million research grant from the National Institutes of Health.

• Robert Merski, Class of 1967: Lead principal technical architect for AT&T and a distinguished member of the technical staff for Bell Labs who contributed to the advancement of telecommunications in the United States, Poland and other countries; mentored and coached numerous students and athletes for half a century.

• Dr. Stephen Sun, Class of 1988: Trained in general surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City; served as a medical officer in the Food & Drug Administration’s division of Risk Management and the Controlled Substance staff.

• Dorian Van Horn, Class of 1982: chief executive officer for Van Horn Investigations and senior consultant for SIGMA Threat Management Associates; division chief, Naval Criminal Investigative Service Family & Sexual Violence Unit, Death, Cold Case Homicide and Violent Crime.

Tickets are $50 for adults or $30 for children with a choice of meals.
