“Murder on the Nile” is adapted from Agatha Christie’s novel “Death on the Nile” and is set on a paddle steamer cruising the Nile River in 1940s Egypt.

The passengers are abuzz when the famous heiress Kay Ridgeway and her penniless new husband Simon Mostyn board the ship. Class, money and reputation are all at stake in one way or another for the passengers and before they know it, deceit, theft and murder occur on the river, according to a press release from the theater company.

Spurned lover Jacqueline De Severac, protective uncle Canon Pennefather, a troubled German doctor and a host of colorful and mysterious characters add to the drama and suspense of this classic mystery.

“I have been fortunate to have been involved with Center Players in a variety of capacities both on and off the stage,” Berman said, “and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with this great cast and experienced director Bernice Garfield-Szita to bring this wonderful play to life on our stage.”

Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 2 p.m. There will be an additional 2 p.m. performance on May 20. Tickets are $23 and $25 (plus a $2 service fee per ticket) and are available online at www.centerplayers.org or by calling 732-462-9093.

Following “Murder on the Nile,” Center Players’ season will continue with Leslie Hochman’s original musical “Doodle,” running June 16-25.

Hochman will direct the production, which is a celebration of Americana, and features uplifting music and patriotic messages, according to the press release.

Concluding the season will be Tom Griffin’s “The Boys Next Door” which will be directed by Dave McGrath and will run from Aug. 4-20.

Center Players was founded in 1996. The group’s space at 35 South St. contains 49 seats.
