Richard P. Charzewski

Richard P. Charzewski, 66, passed away unexpectedly and suddenly at his home in South Brunswick on Monday evening, April 3, 2017.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Alice (Goltz) Charzewski.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon (Laduca) Charzewski; his loving children, Amy and her husband Brian Cordes, of Manalapan, and Kyle P. Charzewski and his wife Cristin, of Somerset; his dear brothers, Lawrence, of Manville, Robert, of Iselin, Ronald, of Greenville, Tenn., and Raymond, of Monroe; and his cherished grandchildren, Hunter Tyler and Ashlyn Alexis Cordes.

He was born in Newark and grew up in the Monroe Township-Jamesburg area until marrying his wife of 42 years and starting their family in North Brunswick and continuing to grow their family in the Deans section of South Brunswick, where they have lived since 1977.

Richard was a graduate of Jamesburg High School, class of 1969. He attended Middlesex County (East Brunswick) Vocational Technical School for carpentry, then attended Middlesex County College, studying building code inspection.

Richard belonged to the Millwright United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 1006. He was the Commander of the Sons of American Legion Post 401, South Brunswick, for many years until his death.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge of North-South Brunswick and the Jamesburg High School Alumni Association.

Richard served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 10 of the Boy Scouts of America in South Brunswick and saw his son Kyle through the troop as an Eagle Scout. He was a Little League baseball coach and a recreational soccer coach in town.

He spent many years volunteering his time with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and volunteered with his wife supporting and serving as South Brunswick band parents, supporting his son and his daughter’s interests in the marching band.

Richard happily took on the role as the patriarch of the Charzewski family and could often be found enjoying family meals around the kitchen table, telling stories about the years he spent as a motorcycle riding and race car driving youth, building furniture for the home he shared with his wife and children, enjoying family vacations to Wildwood every summer, and celebrating life’s special moments, including the marriage of both of his children and the birth of both grandchildren.

Relatives and friends were invited to call at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, on April 9.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 1740 U.S. 130, North Brunswick, on April 10.  Entombment was at Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick.
