NORTH BRUNSWICK – Drivers of two vehicles were injured when a box truck allegedly failed to stop when reaching an intersection on Route 1.
North Brunswick police were dispatched to the intersection at North Oaks Boulevard around 7 a.m. April 11, according to information provided by the North Brunswick Police Department.
Upon arrival, units found a three-vehicle collision on the northbound side of the highway. This included two passenger cars and one commercial vehicle, also called a box truck, that were all traveling north on Route 1.
The preliminary investigation shows that the commercial vehicle reportedly failed to stop when reaching the intersection, striking a Toyota Corolla with great force, and pushing it into the Acura in front of it, police said.
The drivers of the passenger cars were the lone occupants of each car, and were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by the North Brunswick First Aid & Rescue Squad. One driver had non-serious injuries, while the other driver suffered critical injuries, according to reports. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The collision is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Bureau. Anyone with any information should call 732-247-0922, ext. 318.
The northbound lanes of Route 1 were shut down for a few hours to allow for the investigation, as well as the inner most lane of the southbound side due to debris in the road. All involved vehicles were removed from the scene by George Logan Towing, according to police.
