On the anniversary of their 16th annual affair, An Evening With The Irish, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians of Freehold will pay tribute to three local individuals for their outstanding service to their community and organization.
The event will take place on April 22 from 7-11 p.m. at Valentine Hall behind Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown. The Irish band Blackwater will perform, as well as step dancers from D’Arcy School of Dance.
Gift baskets, 50/50 raffles and a wheelbarrow of spirits will be available for purchase, according to a press release.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, which includes corned beef, snacks and other fare. The affair is BYOB. For tickets and further information, call 732-740-6821 or 732-299-5297.
Rich Kane will be honored with the John Concannon Hibernian of the Year Award. The award recognizes the impact the late Concannon had on the formation and development of the local Hibernian chapter after serving as the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade public relations director from 1966-85.
Kane, an active individual with a long history of high school athletic administrative excellence and community activism, will be honored for his role in the Division 16 Hibernian activities, according to the press release.
Freehold Borough Patrolman Jimmy Richmond will be recognized with the U.S. Army Cpl. Michael Curtin Irishman of the Year Award. Curtin, 23, of Howell, was killed in Iraq while serving his country on March 23, 2003.
Richmond will be cited for his bravery in the line of duty, his service to the people he has sworn to protect and his dedication to all people of Freehold, according to the press release.
Tim O’Sullivan was recently cited by the National Ancient Order of the Hibernians with a Life Membership Emeritus Award.
Sullivan a product of County Cork, Ireland, came to America at the age of 15 in 1956. He is a 56-year Hibernian and will receive the St. Oliver Plunkett Award, the most prestigious award given by the local Hibernians, according to the press release.
