EAST BRUNSWICK – Investigators were able to identify the specific make and model of a vehicle suspected to be involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident, and were then able to lodge charges against the driver.
A 17-year-old male was jogging south on Old Bridge Turnpike when he was struck by an unknown vehicle from behind around 9:54 p.m. on March 16, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.
The victim was thrown to the ground and the suspect vehicle allegedly fled the scene without stopping, according to police.
Responding officers located the victim who was injured, but not seriously.
Patrol units recovered a broken off portion of a front passenger’s-side bumper at the scene of the accident. The East Brunswick Investigative Division and Special Operations Division, specifically Detective Michael Smith, Detective John Breen and Patrolman James Angermeier, continued the investigation and were able to identify the specific make, model and approximate year of the suspect vehicle, a champagne or gold colored Dodge Intrepid, manufactured between 1998 and 2004, according to the statement.
On March 30, members of the Investigative Division and Special Operations Division located the suspect vehicle and interviewed the driver, a 33-year-old woman from South River. She was charged with assault by auto and endangering an injured person. She was also issued numerous motor vehicle violations including leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report, according to police.
