Cheers & Jeers

Gene Page/AMC

by Damian Holbrook

Cheers to The Walking Dead
for covering its tracks. The reappearance of Michael Cudlitz’s Abraham was the only thing that took away the heartbreak of watching Sonequa Martin-Green’s (above, with Cudlitz) dying Sasha recall happier days with her late love.

Cheers to Brockmire
for hitting it out of the ballpark. Don’t be shocked if Hank Azaria winds up at the top of the Emmy roster for his pitch-perfect performance as a disgraced baseball announcer in IFC’s darkly winning new comedy.

Jeers to Homeland
for sending Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) to his eternal home. The ex-CIA agent was fatally wounded while saving Carrie (Claire Danes) and shady President-elect Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) from special-ops assassins, leaving the show without a leading man we could actually root for. (Sorry, Saul!)

Jeers to Chris Hardwick
for all the overload. Love the guy, love his whole Nerdist thing, but with The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul and Preacher aftershows, The Wall, @midnight, a late-night talk show and a new gig hosting NBC’s unscripted tech series The Awesome Show, it just seems like he’s hoarding jobs!
