The Foundation for the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools has made six new donations totaling $13,859 to the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.
At its meeting on April 18 at the district’s offices in Englishtown, the Board of Education accepted the grants and thanked the foundation for its ongoing support of the schools.
The following grants were awarded, according to the meeting agenda:
• Robert Williams, Manalapan Englishtown Middle School, Andy Sheehy Award for Citizenship, Graduation, $150;
• Jaclyn Klask, Clark Mills School, and Maria Zofrea, Wemrock Brook School, Reading and Writing Institute, $1,650;
Cythia Pope, Manalapan Englishtown Middle School, Shakespeare: All the World Is a Stage, $2,400;
• Stacy Johnson, Margaret Pierciey, Lindsay Singer, Lafayette Mills School, STEM program, $3,023;
• Lorrie Daccurso, Manalapan Englishtown Middle School, and Michael Laufer, Pine Brook School, National History Day, $600;
• Christina DiTaranto and Felicia Hardman-Stradford, Lafayette Mills School, Chromebook special education cart, $6,036.
The board also accepted a donation from the Wemrock Brook School PTA in the amount of $1,082, which represents half the cost of a SmartBoard for the school counselor classroom.
In other action, the board recognized six eighth grade pupils who study Italian at the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School and who participated in the Italian Heritage and Culture Day Competition at Montclair State University.
The students wrote their own skit and memorized their lines in Italian, according to the board. They performed in front of an audience of more than 200 students and teachers of Italian.
The students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School came in first place. They are Jessica Visone, Angelica Levin, Zacchary Orrico, Sofia Diaz, Angela Amadeo and Gabriella Raiola.
Finally, the board thanked Heather Feinstein, who is a fifth grade pupil in Kristy Guerriero’s academically talented class at Lafayette Mills School.
According to the board, Heather was named a runner-up in this year’s “Amazing People Biographical Letter Writing Contest” from Scholastic. As a prize, Heather received two biography libraries from Scholastic – one for her to keep and one which she donated to her classroom.
