Freehold officer promoted to sergeant

FREEHOLD – Following nearly a decade of service with the Freehold Borough Police Department, an officer has received a promotion.

During a Borough Council meeting on April 17, Officer James Richmond was promoted to the rank of sergeant and sworn in to his new position.

Police Chief Glenn Roberts said Richmond, a borough native, joined the police force in July 2007.

“During his time in the department, Sgt. Richmond has received many commendations for his work. He will make a great supervisor,” Roberts said.

The council passed a resolution confirming Richmond’s promotion.

In other action, a resolution passed by the council confirmed the appointment of Eric Bacany as a part-time special police officer, pending successful completion of pre-employment testing; Joseph Panzarino as a probationary member of the Freehold Fire Department, Engine and Hose Company No. 1; Chris Hanley as a probationary member of the Freehold Fire Department, Good Will Hook and Ladder Company; Stanley Patterson as a driver of fire department vehicles; and Thomas Krause as a driver of fire department vehicles.

Council President George Schnurr and council members Sharon Shutzer, Michael DiBenedetto, Kevin Kane and Ron Griffiths voted to confirm the appointments. Councilman Jaye Sims was absent.
