JACKSON – Two officers from the Jackson Police Department have received a Lifesaving Award from the Monmouth and Ocean County Intelligence Bureau (MOCIB).
Police officers Sean Greenberger and Kale Mabey received the honor at the 62nd Annual MOCIB Valor Awards Luncheon on April 19.
According to Jackson police, on Dec. 22, 2016, Greenberger and Mabey responded to a motor vehicle crash in which a car struck a tree. The driver was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle and the engine compartment was fully engulfed in fire.
Greenberger and Mabey were able to break the driver’s side window, open the door, cut the driver out of his seat belt and successfully remove him from the burning vehicle, according to police.
The driver was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment and was discharged several days later. During the incident, Mabey sustained minor injuries to both his hands, according to police.
Jackson Police Capt. Steven Laskiewicz said Greenberger has served on the force for more than 15 years, while Mabey has been with the department for one-and-a-half years following his service with the New Jersey Department of Corrections.
“The officers’ response to the incident in December was outstanding and is a reflection of every officer in the department,” Laskiewicz said. “I know all of our officers would have responded in the same way. We are very proud of officers Greenberger and Mabey. They did a great job.”
