SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The N.J. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced alternating traffic on Route 27 to allow for a traffic shift on the Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacements project in Franklin and South Brunswick.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 11, DOT’s contractor, Montana Construction Corp., will alternate traffic on Route 27 at Carter’s Brook Bridge, in order to place concrete barriers, restripe and shift Route 27 northbound traffic to the right onto the completed portion of the new shoulder for the next stage in construction, according to information provided by DOT.

The shift in traffic will remain in place for several months to allow for bridge work to continue in the center work zone.

Route 27 southbound will not be changed and will remain on the temporary bridge so that the center portion of the culvert bridge can be constructed. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the bridge during construction, according to DOT.

The $3.37 million federally-funded Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacement project is expected to be completed by early 2018, according to DOT. The two culvert bridge replacements will occur in stages, with the Carter’s Brook culvert work occurring first. The new wider culverts will retain a single 12-foot wide travel lane in each direction, but will now also have an 8-foot wide shoulder in each direction. A temporary bridge is being constructed along the west-side of the existing culverts to allow for traffic flow to be maintained at all times.
