Edison officers greet shoppers at Menlo Park Mall

EDISON — Shoppers at Menlo Park Mall this week shopped while learning about the role of law enforcement.

As part of National Police Week, township police officers greeted shoppers at Menlo Park Mall offering free giveaways and providing information about the role of local law enforcement.

“This is a terrific opportunity for our officers to meet and speak with people in a casual, relaxed setting,” Police Chief Thomas Bryan said. “People can learn more about the law enforcement profession, get their questions answered and find out how they can help our officers be more effective on the job.”

National Police Week runs from May 14-20. The Edison Police Department hosted an opening ceremony on May 15, which is also National Peace Officers Memorial Day, at its Menlo Park Mall display. The ground floor display includes a police motorcycle and vehicles.

Throughout the week, information was available about the town’s popular Neighborhood Watch program, the Edison Police Explorers, the Edison Civilian and Junior Police Academies, and about a variety of careers in law enforcement.

Edison officers will be available to speak with shoppers and area residents from noon–4 p.m. each day. It started on May 15 and the meet and greets run through May 21. Officers will be on hand from noon–8 p.m. on May 19 and on May 20.
