METUCHEN — A grant from Investors Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse communities served by Investors Bank, will help enhance the Middlesex County Greenway, which spans three communities.
Representatives from Investors Foundation will present a check for $5,000 to the non-profit Edison Greenways Group, Inc. at 9:30 a.m. June 3 at the Middlesex Greenway Trailhead on Middlesex Avenue in Metuchen.
The date marks National Trails Day, the American Hiking Society’s celebration of the trail system.
The grant is an important resource for a shared project taking place in Edison known as the “Dudash Park and Middlesex Greenway ADA Access and Parking Enhancement,” which will improve the county’s multi-use trail and its adjacent municipal park on May and Liberty streets, according to Robert Takash, president of the Edison Greenways Group.
The Edison Greenways Group is pairing up with Investors Foundation, the Edison Environmental Commission, Edison Municipal Government, Middlesex County Freeholders and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for the project.
The $5,000 grant from Investors Foundation and the anticipated combined $48,000 State Trails Grant and County Open Space Trust Matching Fund will help to create an expanded recreational facility for area residents and potential visitors.
In case of rain, the ceremony will held at Investors Bank, 946 Amboy Ave., Edison.
The Middlesex County Greenway is situated on a historic portion of Lehigh Valley rail corridor and spans 3.5 miles miles in Edison, Metuchen and Woodbridge. It is also part of the East Coast Greenway, a developing trail system spanning nearly 3,000 miles between Canada and Key West.
