WOODBRIDGE — A raccoon found in the vicinity of Greco Lane in the Woodbridge proper section of the township tested positive for rabies last week, according to the Woodbridge Township Department of Health and Human Services.
The township Animal Control Division responded to a report of a raccoon acting in an abnormal manner during daylight hours on May 9. The responding Animal Control officer was able to net and capture the raccoon. A subsequent investigation determined that there was no indication that the raccoon had come into contact with any resident or domestic pet.
The raccoon carcass was transported to the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) forensic laboratory for standard rabies evaluation. The DOH advised Woodbridge Animal Control on May 12 that the raccoon had tested positive for rabies.
