Lions to host Memorial Day parade

ALLENTOWN – The borough’s annual Memorial Day parade will start at 10:30 a.m. May 29 and residents and visitors are asked to arrive in Allentown by 9:45 a.m.

The parade will be held rain or shine. There will be road closures on Main and High streets during the parade.

The parade will begin on Main Street near Allen Drive, proceed south through town and turn left on High Street.

Marchers will proceed to the Newell Elementary School where a memorial service will follow the parade, according to the Lions Club of Allentown, which organizes the event that honors Americans who were killed in the service of the nation.

The Lions Club has named Stephen Mikulas, 92, a veteran of World War II, to serve as grand marshal of the parade. Mikulas was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Germany on the burial detail. He was honorably discharged.

Antique cars are welcomed to participate in the parade. Contact Councilman Rob Strovinsky, who chairs the Parade Committee for the Lions Club, at rstrovin@yahoo.com for additional information.
