Field house at Lombardi complex named after esteemed coach

OLD BRIDGE — The Old Bridge Public School District dedicated the field house at the Lombardi Sports Complex in honor of Richard Gebauer III, a retired high school coach and teacher.

Gebauer holds a career record of 207 victories  and 17 losses as head cross-country coach at both Cedar Ridge High School (since closed) and Old Bridge High School.

He boasts a 31-year coaching career, which included seven New Jersey group state championships, 10 Central Jersey state sectional titles, 24 Greater Middlesex Conference championships and 22 Greater Middlesex Conference division titles.

In 2015, Gebauer was named the United States Track and Field Cross-Country New Jersey Coach of the Year.

About 150 friends, family, members of the school board, administrators, and former athletes, including three from the first team Gebauer coached, attended the one-hour ceremony on May 19, according to information provided by the school district.

At the ceremony, speakers included Ron Mazzola, master of ceremonies; Daniel DiMino, athletic director; Salvatore DiPrima, president of the Board of Education; David Cittadino, schools superintendent; and Robert Eriksen, retired athletic director.
