MARLBORO – Police have arrested two people who were allegedly attempting to shoplift merchandise from Kohl’s. The Marlboro Police Department is attempting to identify and locate a third suspect who participated in the incident.
On May 18 at 7:12 p.m., officers responded to Kohl’s in the Marlboro Plaza on Route 9 north to investigate a report that a theft was occurring at the store, according to police.
Store employees told the officers they believed three people were attempting to steal more than $1,000 worth of clothing. As the suspects were leaving the store, two people were apprehended by police.
A 23-year-old woman from Passaic and a 24-year-old man from Paterson were charged with shoplifting and conspiracy to commit shoplifting. The man was also charged with being in possession of an anti-shoplifting device, according to police.
The woman was processed and released and the man was initially placed in the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township.
The third suspect, a male, fled from the shopping center on foot, crossed Route 9 and entered a wooded area behind the Marlboro Motor Lodge. Officers searched the area, but were not able to locate the man. The search was called off at 10:30 p.m.
Police officers from the New Jersey State Police, the Manalapan Police Department, the Old Bridge Township Police Department and the New Brunswick Police Department responded to Marlboro and assisted police with the search for the third suspect.
On May 24, police said the man remained at large. He is described as an Hispanic male who was wearing jeans and a dark shirt on May 18.
Marlboro officers Sgt. Andrew DelCora, Cpl. Thomas Rose, Cpl. Joshua Stonesifer, Patrolman Michael Pecoraro, Patrolman Jonathan Gramcko, Patrolman Aaron Murdock, Lt. Allan Bilinski and Capt. Frederick Reck responded to the scene of the incident.
Detective Jill Borowsky is continuing the investigation, according to the press release.
