Professional chefs will cook with food pantry staples

MCFOODS (Middlesex County Food Outreach Organization and Distribution Services) and East Brunswick-based Crisis Room Food Pantry at Aldersgate United Methodist Church will present a hunger awareness event called “Come Dine Below the Line” from 6-8 p.m. on June 10 at the church, 562 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick.

Attendees will enjoy a free meal prepared by Rutgers University Dining Services chef Peter Blake, event leader Douglas Wilson and other professional chefs using food pantry staples as their main ingredients.

The goal of the event is to give residents a better understanding of the issues surrounding hunger. Topics will include how food pantries can serve the community and the importance of providing locally grown produce to area pantries.

Admission is free. Groups of four or more should RSVP to Jennifer Apostol at ja@mciauth.com by June 8.
