Old Bridge High School’s Aasiyah Alston had a productive day when she competed at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Meet of Champions (MOC).

In the state championship meet that was held at Northern Burlington County Regional High School in Columbus June 10, Alston finished seventh in both the girls’ 100- and 200-meter dashes.

She was clocked in 12.62 in the 100 and 25.24 in the 200.

“These were my last races, so I wanted to give it my all out there,” Alston said. “I wanted to beat my personal record, but I couldn’t be prouder right now.”

Alston’s personal bests in both races are 12.28 and 25.20, respectively.

Alston will attend Felician University in Rutherford in the fall.

During last year’s event, Bria Mack of Williamstown High School won the event with a time of 11.87. Mack successfully defended her title this year with a time of 11.77.

Winslow Township High School’s Shakira Dancy also repeated as an MOC winner when she captured the 200 with a time of 24.14. She won the 2016 state championship with a clocking of 24.28.

Other local athletes placed at the MOC as well. Dakota Gerges of Sayreville War Memorial High School placed sixth in the  girls’ 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.85. Jasmine Van Note of Sayreville finished 19th in the girls’ shot put with a mark of 37-7¼. Their Sayreville teammate, Ashley Edwards, finished 21st in the long jump with a 17-0.

Anthony Ragusa of Old Bridge placed 20th in the boys’ javelin with a mark of 163-11.
